“As consultants, clients look to us to be unbiased and objective. In efforts to stay unbiased in our client work, it is important to provide breaks from that work throughout your day or week. For me, internal work and continuing education helps create a work balance that allows me to stay objective, and not personalize the client or the engagement too much.”
“People like to like who they work with. Keep it friendly, energetic, and have a sense of humor. Work can be a grind for us all but being friendly and energetic is renewing and refreshing to the client, which will make you someone they want to consistently work with, delegate tasks to and will keep you in their minds for new roles or endeavors.”

What would you suggest to your peers to drive higher value for our clients?
Gain trust. Trust has to be a priority in consulting.
“Client trust is one the most important things for consultants. In working closely with one person for a long period of time, trust is what has kept me around as other project managers have come and gone. Trust is a powerful asset to have. From the beginning and throughout the engagement I ask myself, “can they trust me with these deadlines and delivering quality work with almost no oversight management” – the trust built with this mindset allows me to read between the lines and deliver the work with little to no edits so that they can manage other tasks.”
“Trust is also essential in your client sharing private, personal or professional information with you so that you have more insight into their personal needs and/or the needs of the engagement or what future needs may arise that you can position yourself in front of as an asset when it arrives. Having client trust can provide a view into new pursuits that would otherwise not be there.”
“Can you give unbiased and objective recommendations? That’s what the client is looking to us, as consultants, to provide. And trust is a cornerstone of the client having confidence that your feedback is unbiased and objective.
