This month, Summus Group founder and managing Partner, Bill Sanders, takes over Sit Down with Summus to reflect on the past year.
2020…a year that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives. The pandemic has affected all of us and completely changed how we live our day-to-day lives, both personally and professionally. It has been a challenging year, to say the least. But in the face of challenging times, you find out what you’re made of and what your company stands for.
At Summus Group, we have four core values that we live by and ingrain in everything we do. One of those core values is ‘Be Resilient’. I can’t think of a time in my life where people had to be more resilient than this year. When the pandemic started in March, like all companies, we had to decide how to handle this unprecedented event. There was unimaginable uncertainty and anxiety as we laid out our approach. We watched as friends and family were being laid off, furloughed or taking forced pay cuts. Instead of following suit, the Summus approach was to lean in and double down on our commitment to our associates and our company. We did not layoff anyone, we did not furlough anyone, and we did not enforce any pay cuts. In fact, we went the other direction. We gave our annual raises, bonuses and promotions, as if there were no pandemic at all. It was a risky approach to be certain, but we believed that we could remain resilient and get through these tough times together.
Then, an unexpected thing began to happen…the company continued growing, not receding. We were able to begin partnerships with new clients, hire incredibly talented associates and invest in the infrastructure and future of the company. When this crazy year comes to a close, it will be the best year Summus Group has ever had. We will have grown more than 70% in the midst of a global pandemic that deeply affected the industries we serve. Additionally, we are proud to have been nominated and won numerous awards not only for our growth, but for being one of the best places to work, both locally and nationally.
We are also very proud that we continued to support a number of charities throughout the year for causes we are passionate about, including feeding the hungry, assisting our wounded veterans and helping to educate our underserved youth. Charitable organizations need our help now more than ever and every little bit makes a difference. I feel fortunate to have been able to serve and support our philanthropy partners during these times.
I want to thank the entire Summus Group family for making everything possible. Your resilience, hard work, dedication and heart allowed us to have this incredible year even in the face of what seemed to be insurmountable obstacles. I cannot thank you all enough. I have never been prouder to work for a company than I am to work for this one. I hope everyone has a great holiday and I cannot wait to see what we can do together in 2021!
